Two care homes in Cardiff are opening their doors to help combat loneliness in the community this festive season.

On Wednesday, 6th December from 4pm-6pm, Care UK's Llys Cyncoed, on Cyncoed Road, is helping older members of the community to get into the festive spirit by joining residents and team members for a special Christmas choir.

The team has been hard at work decorating the home ready for the event later this week, where visitors will also be able to enjoy mince pies and mulled wine while they sing classic carols and share their festive memories.

While at Llys Herbert, on Ty-Draw Road in Lisvane, the team are inviting the community to listen and sing along to their very own carol concert with the Corpus Christi High School choir, which will be taking place on Monday, 18th December from 6pm-8pm.

Llys Herbert will then continue the festivities on December 20th, when they welcome the community to a special Christmas lunch, with the home's talented chefs preparing to cook up a traditional three-course meal, including turkey with all the trimmings and Christmas pudding.

Studies have shown that almost 1.5 million older people feel lonelier at Christmas than at any other time of year. To help tackle loneliness, Care UK has launched its Care to Share initiative, designed to support older people through the festive season.

More than 100 Care UK homes nationwide will be taking part to give older members of the community a safe and sociable space where they can enjoy some festive fun and good company.

Virgil Frincu, General Manager at Llys Cyncoed, said:

"We're looking forward to opening our doors for our special Christmas community choir as part of our Care to Share initiative.

"Christmas is always an exciting time here at Llys Cyncoed, with everyone sharing their favourite memories, traditions – and carols. Music is such a wonderful way to bring people together and prompt conversation and connection with others, improving wellbeing and reducing loneliness. We can't wait to join our neighbours for a good sing-along."
